Mezzo-soprano Mariana Pentcheva was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. After attending the Conservatoire in her home town as a student of Ivanka Mihailova she studied with Mati Pinkas and Mila Dulgerova at the State Academy of Music in Sofia.
She has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses and festivals, including Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona, Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla, Opernhaus Zurich, New National Theatre of Tokyo, San Diego Opera, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
She has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Antonio Pappano, Philippe Jordan, Vladimir Jurowski, Gustav Kuhn, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren, Zoltán Peskó, Emmanuel Krivine.
Her repertory includes Verdi’s Requiem, Un ballo in maschera, La forza del destino, Il trovatore, Falstaff, Don Carlo, Aida, Cavalleria rusticana, Adriana Lecouvreur, La Gioconda, Oedipus rex, Aleksandr Nevskij, Norma, Möise et Pharaon, Tannhäuser, Lohengrin.
